An expert entitled to the special allowance of the State Council

Huang Youyi, male, born on June 1, 1953, is a senior translator. As the member of the 11th and 12th National Committee of CPPCC and an expert entitled to the special allowance of the State Council, he works as the Vice Chairman and member of International Federation of Translators, the Vice President and Secretary-general of Translators Association of China and the Director of English Expert Committee of China Accreditation Test for Translators and Interpreters (CATTI). On November 12, 2011, he won the prize "2011 Influential Person of Copyright Industry of China".

With translation, publishing and foreign communications as his specialty, he lays stresses on the importance of studies that introduce China to the outside and he is familiar with international co-publishing. He has translated the American famous literary works The Bonfire of the Vanities, George C. Marshall and Uncrowned King; the Chinese-English books that introduce various aspects of China to the world including China's Social Insurance System, China's WTO Entry and Economic Reforms, Xi'an — Ancient Capital of China, The Great Wall of China, Travel in China, Chinese Jade and Selections from Strange Tales from the Liaozhai Studio and etc. Moreover, he has finished checking and revisions of millions of words for the books including Panoramic China — Guangdong — Forerunner of an Era, Panoramic China — Zhejiang — Riding the Tides of History and Made in China. In addition, he has participated in the translation of documents translation for the Party and government and leaders' speeches, and he has been in charge of the Chinese-English Vocabulary of Foreign Affairs. Mr. Huang was also the General Coordinator of the Chinese side for Chinese Culture and Civilization, a large-scale co-publishing project between America and China, Deputy Director of the editorial board for the series of Library of Chinese Classics (Chinese-English), the Editor-in-chief of Chinese Translators Journal, Director of editorial board for International Communications, and the Editorial Consultant for The World of English.
